About This Quote

This quote is about the life of Buddha, who was an Indian spiritual leader. Buddha spent years studying the teachings of Hinduism, the religion his father practiced. One day, he came upon a herd of cows that had fallen into a muddy pool. The animals were struggling to get out but could not because the water was deep. With compassion for the animals, Buddha threw a giant net over them and led them out of the water.

Afterward, all the animals were freed from the mud, but when Buddha saw one cow with its hooves stuck in the sticky mixture, he realized that it was too late for that cow to get out. He instructed the other animals to leave it behind so it could be freed in its own time. The story shows us that there are some problems we cannot solve ourselves. We must ask for help when they arise in order to solve them.
